Magdalena Hlawacz Bio

Magdalena Hlawacz is a visual artist and curator. She graduated from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Wrocław, Poland, earning a PhD in 2008 and a habilitation in 2015. She currently works at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Opole, where she leads the Digital Printmaking Studio and serves as Director of the Institute of Visual Arts.
Her artistic practice explores media relations and interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on efficiency, time compression, and the rationalization of labor. She also examines the social and cultural imperatives surrounding sleep and rest as forms of discipline.
She has participated in over 200 solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including in the USA, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Iran, the United Kingdom, Japan, Portugal, Hungary, China, Lithuania, Canada, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Romania, South Korea, Georgia, Mongolia, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine, and Iceland.
She has initiated and curated numerous artistic projects in collaboration with artists, researchers, and students. Her work spans printmaking, photography, digital media, and installation, often combining diverse media with a critical view of contemporary reality.
