From the Coffeehouse School to Wandering Through Cafés – An Examination of the Work of Rashin Ghorbi

■ By: Behnam Shah Hosseini
■ This article explores the relationship between the contemporary paintings of Rashin Ghorbi and the last continuous school of classical Iranian painting, known as Coffee House Painting. Shah Hosseini examines the themes and structure in Ghorbi’s works and their connection to Iranian visual heritage, highlighting the notion of a “non-judgmental gaze” as a shared characteristic between this tradition and the artist’s approach. By contrasting this perspective with the observer-centered and judgment-oriented approach of Western painting, the article argues that Ghorbi’s visual world neither remains trapped in the past nor dissolves in the present, but instead forms a living thread between collective memory and the horizon of the future.

The Art of Fire

■ By Davood Arsooni – Editorial Board Member
■ In this article, the author explores the Ottoman painting “Glass Blower Show in the Constantinople Racecourse” from the Surname-i Humayun, offering a fresh perspective on the ancient art of glassmaking—where the four elements of earth, water, air, and fire merge poetically into creation. Glassmaking is not merely a technical craft but a language between humanity and nature: fire that transforms lifeless sand, air that breathes life, water that purifies, and earth that provides the foundation. From the workshops of the East to Venice and Europe, this art became a bridge between cultures and an endless source of inspiration throughout history.
